Gosh how silly and blind that was! Being in England for so long taught me I was wrong about the French romance thing - really, my country didn't seem honeymoon-appropriate and Paris can be super dirty, polluted and disgusting.
Now I know what it all means.
Us French people -well most of us anyway- are very family orientated. We want to settle, buy a property and have a family. Moreover, we care about the ones we love and give an awful lot of ourselves.
Work colleagues have been surprising me as they spoke about their partners. Men understand they need to help out at home and both parents usually work full-time to afford an average standard of life. Women are spoilt, so are men, and your relationship is as important as your children, whom you'll raise to be independent in order to get your couple back eventually.
For years I thought I met the wrong people. For years I was just getting involved with the wrong culture. I'm not saying one is best, but one definitely suits me better.
